Work History

Web Developer, Brewer Media, Chattanooga, TN 11/2007 – 01/2010

As webmaster for Brewer Media, one of Chattanooga’s largest media conglomerates, I extended the functionality of a third-party ASP/MSSQL website – ChattanoogaHasCars.com, and successfully franchised this site into two other markets. I also designed and developed several php/mySQL websites for the company: ChattanoogaHasTravel.com, ChattanoogaHasFun.com, ChattanoogaPulse.com, and several other mini-sites. I also served as lead technical advisor to the development of station websites. In addition to my technical role, I also designed advertising graphics for both web and print (the Pulse).

Most notable achievement: Developed a custom events software module for ChattanoogaHasFun.com.

Web and Flash Content Developer, Contract, Chattanooga, TN 10/2007 – 11/2007

In October 2007, I branched out into web and content development on a contract basis with iCandy. In addition to creating custom logo graphics for iCandy, I created SQL/PHP-driven websites for two local companies (URLs below). During this time, I also developed Flash animation content both for the websites I prepared as well as other contract assignments.

Software Engineer,Tuftco Corporation, Chattanooga, TN 05/2005 – 10/2007

In May 2005, I accepted a development position with Tuftco Corporation, the Chattanooga area’s largest manufacturer of tufting equipment. As senior software engineer, I managed the development of Tuftco’s design software. I also worked on a project basis to provide custom solutions for our customers. At my initiative, a version control system was put into place, a defect tracking system was installed, and a test environment was setup for the development department.

Most notable achievement: Ported a large C++/MFC code base to the .Net platform.

Programmer/Analyst, Robinson Manufacturing, Dayton, TN 01/2004 – 05/2005

After relocating to the Chattanooga area in 2003, I accepted a position as programmer/analyst at a nearby textile manufacturing and distribution company. In this capacity, I designed and developed new software systems using a case tool called Lansa. I also performed some back-end CL scripting and RPG programming on the AS/400 server. My work played a major role in the company’s transition from terminal applications to Windows client applications for their production and inventory management.

Most notable achievement: Developed the company’s first written test plan and bug-tracking system.

Contract Programmer, Chattanooga, TN 05/2003 – 12/2003

In May 2003, I relocated to the Chattanooga area and began working as a contract programmer/consultant. In this capacity, I managed development projects for several small companies in the area. Projects included web development and software/database consulting services.

Most notable achievement: Developed a Flash-based website for a local boxer breeder.

Software Developer, Simulation Dynamics, Maryville, TN 05/2000 – 04/2003

After obtaining my degree, I joined Simulation Dynamics, Inc. (SDI), in providing consultation as well as custom software solutions for manufacturing and logistical analysis. In this capacity, I designed and developed COM-based software modules in addition to maintaining an extensive code base. Given my high degree of motivation and performance, I also became involved in project management and product distribution. I provided training to office staff in the use of Concurrent Versions System (CVS) for managing our software repository.

Most notable achievement: Developed a base class for the company’s custom plug-in architecture, for which I conducted on-line training with remote employees and contractors using Webex.

Research Assistant, Innovative Computing Laboratories, Knoxville, TN 01/1999 – 05/ 2000

While in school, I conducted research with Innovative Computing Laboratories (ICL) at the University. I managed the website for the group, which allowed user login and download of mathematical and statistical software modules. In addition, I performed backups and hardware maintenance.

Most notable achievement: I designed and developed a search engine for the online software repository.

Web Development Intern, University of TN, Knoxville, TN 09/1998 – 12/1998

I performed an internship with the Study Abroad department at the University of Tennessee while completing my degree. In this capacity, I developed a web site for the group cataloging personal data from students who had participated in the Study Abroad program. I also made applications for the program available on-line.
